Heinrich Seißler (born January 15, 1926 - † October 31, 2016 ) was a German local politician (SPD) and teacher . For four decades he was involved in local politics in his home town of Nersingen and in the Neu-Ulm district . He has received numerous awards for his services.

Live and act

Heinrich Seißler worked as a teacher from 1955 and from 1960 to 1969 as headmaster at the elementary school in Straß (today Anton-Miller-Grundschule) . When, as a result of the school reform in Bavaria in 1969, the previous schools were closed and new school districts were formed with a much larger catchment area, Seißler was appointed rector of the newly founded association school in Straß . Under his leadership, the school received an urgently needed extension and a new gymnasium.

Seißler was a member of the SPD for more than fifty years and volunteered for his party on the local political level for over forty years. From 1960 to 1972 he was a member of the municipal council of the then still independent municipality of Straß. During these twelve years he was also a member of the district council of the Neu-Ulm district for the SPD . On June 12, 1972 he was elected mayor of Straß and held this honorary position until the town was incorporated into the municipality of Nersingen on May 1, 1978. During his tenure, the development of new building areas, the completion of the entire sewer system and the expansion of the local road network were the main focuses of his work. In 1978 he became the first chairman of the newly formed board of directors of the local fire department.

From 1978 to 2000 Heinrich Seißler was a member of the Nersingen municipal council for more than two decades and during this time he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group for twelve years. In 1990 he was also elected second mayor of the municipality of Nersingen. He held this office until 1996. It was not until 2000 that Seißler withdrew from local politics for health reasons.

Heinrich Seißler died in October 2016 at the age of 90.
