Henry VIII (* 1465 ; † May 28, 1513 ) was Count von Waldeck and the founder of the older Wildunger line of the House of Waldeck . At times he was also the governor of the County of Vianden in Nassau .

Life

Heinrich was the son of Count Philipp I von Waldeck and his wife Johanna von Nassau-Dillenburg . After the early death of his parents, his uncle Philip II was initially his guardian.

In 1486 Philip II and Henry VIII divided the sub-county of Waldeck to Waldeck with each other. However, the castle and the town of Waldeck should both belong together. Because the castle was too small for two court holdings, Heinrich had a second residential building built on the castle grounds in 1500. In 1487, the two Counts of Waldeck jointly founded the Franciscan Convent in Korbach .

Heinrich married Anastasia von Runkel , heir daughter of Wilhelm von Runkel († 1489) , in 1492 . As a result, part of Isenburg and Wied came into his possession. From then on he called himself Graf zu Waldeck and Herr zu Isenburg. After the death of his wife in 1503 he sold these properties to a cousin of his wife, Count Johann III. from Wied. With his wife he had the sons Philip IV and Wilhelm.

In 1493, Count Engelbert von Nassau-Dillenburg , an uncle from his mother's family, appointed him governor of the County of Vianden in what is now Luxembourg.

With the death of Otto IV in 1495, the count's line of Landau expired . Their property fell on the line at Waldeck. Since 1496 there was a dispute between Philip II and Heinrich over the property. Despite the prevailing peace , the dispute was initially fought at gunpoint. It was not until 1498 that both sides took legal action and appealed to the newly established Imperial Court of Justice . In 1507 both sides came to an agreement. Thereafter, the towns of Korbach, Niederwildungen , Sachsenhausen , Sachsenberg and Freienhagen remained in joint ownership. Heinrich got the town and castle Altwildungen and the office that went with it. The office, castle and town of Waldeck remained jointly owned. The same applies to the castle, office and city of Rhoden and the Itter rule . Overall, Heinrich's share in the total ownership of the house was about 1/3.

In 1504, Heinrich and Philipp and their people joined the troops of the Hessian Landgrave Wilhelm II , who, together with others, on behalf of King Maximilian, marched against the Electoral Palatinate in the Landshut War of Succession to carry out the imperial ban. Both counts were also present at the Reichstag in Cologne in 1505 in the entourage of the landgrave. When in 1509 some noble gentlemen attacked Heinrich's subjects, he asked the landgrave for support in vain. The Counts of Waldeck became members of the newly founded Count's Association in 1512.

Heinrich was buried in the grave chapel of St. Nicholas in the Marienthal monastery in Netze .
