Heinrich Volkmann

Heinrich Volkmann (born April 16, 1938 in Bochum ; † September 1, 2014 ) was a German social historian.

Life

Volkmann studied history, German and philosophy in Münster , Würzburg and at the Free University of Berlin . He was a scholarship holder of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and received his doctorate in 1968 with a dissertation on the worker question in the Prussian House of Representatives at the Free University of Berlin. From 1967 he worked as an assistant at the Institute for Social and Economic History at the Free University of Wolfram Fischer . In 1975 Volkmann completed his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin with an unpublished work on The Crisis of 1830. Form, cause and function of social protest in the German pre-March period. In 1978 Volkmann was appointed professor in the economic and social history department of the Central Institute for Social Science Research at the Free University of Berlin. He had been retired since 2003.

Volkmann's research focused on the social protest in Vormärz , state social policy in the 19th century and the history of the industrial action in the 19th and 20th centuries.
