Heinrich Werner (pediatrician)

Heinrich A. Werner (born May 20, 1958 in Kassel , Germany ; † July 15, 2007 in Lexington , USA ) was a German physician and internationally recognized pediatrician ("Pediatric Critical Care").

Life

Werner studied at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the University of California, Los Angeles (School of Medicine). After completing his dissertation in Mainz in 1986 , he worked as a pediatrician at the renowned Duke University Medical Center at Duke University in Durham (North Carolina) and at the University of Oxford in England . After working in pediatrics at the British Columbia Children's Hospital in Vancouver and at the Children's Hospital Zurich , he was a research assistant at the Pulmonary Research Laboratory of the University of British Columbia with a focus on the electrocardiographic function during experimental sepsis . He worked as a senior physician at the German Heart Center Berlin and at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne .

Heinrich Werner became Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Intensive Care at the University of Kentucky Children's Hospital in 1994 , became Chief Physician of Children's Intensive Care at the Children's Hospital in 1995, and in 1996 Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Anaesthesiology and Medical Director of UK HealthCare's Kentucky Children's Hospital Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

Werner was an internationally recognized doctor in the field of pediatric intensive care medicine. He has received the "Warren E. Wheeler Teacher of the Year" several times, as well as the "Jacqueline A. Noonan Role Model of the Year Award", the "Best Grand Rounds Award" and the "Miracle Maker Award". He was voted "Best Doctor in America".

He was married and had three children.
