Heinrich Kraut , from 1912 by Kraut , (born July 4, 1857 in Cannstatt , † August 31, 1935 in Heiligenberg ) was a German lawyer and politician ( conservative , DNVP ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Heilbronn in 1875 , Kraut studied law in Tübingen , Heidelberg , Göttingen and Leipzig until 1879 . During his studies he was a member of the Germania Tübingen fraternity from 1875 and of the Allemannia Heidelberg fraternity from 1877 . After the second state examination in law, he settled as a lawyer in Stuttgart in 1883 . From 1903 he was a public notary and from 1909 a member and most recently chairman of the supervisory board of the publishing company Belser AG. Kraut was also a member of the supervisory board of Neckarwerke AG, Alte Stuttgarter Lebensversicherungsgesellschaft AG and Cannstatter Zeitung GmbH. In addition to his legal work, he was also a member of the Federation of Farmers in Württemberg .

In the empire, Kraut belonged to the conservative party , of which he was state chairman in Württemberg for many years . From 1900 to 1918 he sat as a member of the second chamber of the Württemberg state parliament and from 1908 he was chairman of the conservative parliamentary group with the farmers' union . From 1913 to 1918 Kraut held the office of President of the Second Chamber of the Württemberg State Parliament. In 1918 he participated in the founding of the DNVP , whose state organization in Württemberg was the Württemberg Citizens' Party . After the 1919 election he was a member of the Weimar National Assembly .

On June 23, 1920, Kraut, who at that time was no longer a member of the state parliament, ran against Johannes von Hieber for the office of President of Württemberg. He lost in the vote by 27 to 52 votes.

family

Kraut was the son of Johann Heinrich Kraut (1824–1887), high school principal in Heilbronn and Schwäbisch Hall , and Katharina Sophie born. Mäderer. He was of the Protestant faith. In 1890 he married Marianne Leipheimer (1865–1966), with whom he had three children, including Heinrich Kraut , a chemistry professor who was born in 1893 and who was chairman of German World Hunger Aid from 1968 to 1973 .
