Heinz-Josef Bontrup (born February 8, 1953 in Haltern, today Haltern am See ) is a German economist and professor emeritus.

Life

After studying economics at the University of Bremen with completion in 1981 economics graduate there In 1985 his promotion to Dr. rer. pole. on the subject of pricing for armaments. From 1985 to 1990 he was the scientific department head at the Progress Institute for Economic Research mbH Bremen and from 1990 to 1995 Labor Director at Stahlwerke Bochum AG, a Thyssen subsidiary. From 1996 to 2019 he was a professor of economics with a focus on labor economics in the business law department at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences Gelsenkirchen Bocholt Recklinghausen on the Recklinghausen campus .

Bontrup is co-author and editor of the annual memoranda of the Alternative Economic Policy Working Group (Memorandum Group) and its spokesperson. He is also director at the Westphalian Energy Institute at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences and from 2011 to 2014 was a member of the Expert Council for Reform of the Economic and Monetary Union of the European Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia (organized by the Research Initiative NRW in Europe, FINE) at the University of Düsseldorf and from 2013 to 2015 scientific expert in Enquete -ommission III of the Landtag North Rhine-Westphalia to assess the sustainability of public budgets in North Rhine-Westphalia under the conditions of the debt brake and demographic change. Bontrup is also a liaison professor of the Hans Böckler Foundation and a member of the supervisory board of VGH Insurance Hanover. After all, he is an expert in the German Bundestag and various regional parliaments as well as a member of the presidium of the non-profit Institute for Science and Political Education (iWiPo).

Since 2015, Bontrup has also been writing regular economic policy columns in the Frankfurter Rundschau . His contributions can also be found in the taz , in Junge Welt , in Oxi and in Neues Deutschland .

On March 21, 2018, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his "lifelong commitment in the economic and socio-political field and his extensive voluntary and nationwide educational work on socio-political and economic issues".

In January 2019, Bontrup retired and held a farewell lecture on January 24, 2019.
