Heinz Hohmann
Heinz Hohmann (born January 28, 1879 in Rüsselsheim , † September 1, 1949 in Trautheim ) was a Hessian painter of the 20th century.
Life
From 1880 Heinz Hohmann lived in Darmstadt . He received his artistic training at the School of Applied Arts (Ecole des arts décoratifs) in Strasbourg , the Debschitz School in Munich and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . Then he was a student of Lovis Corinth in Berlin . A stay in Paris in 1910 and 1911, where he studied at the Académie Julian , shaped his later way of working in a special way. After the First World War , Hohmann worked in his father Heinrich Hohmann's (1855–1940) printing works, which he managed for a number of years.
From 1930 he devoted himself exclusively to free art. The death of his daughter hit him hard and the loss of the printing works in an air raid on Darmstadt in September 1944 deprived him of his economic existence. On September 1, 1949, Heinz Hohmann passed away by suicide.
plant
In his time, Hohmann became known for his Art Nouveau- oriented illustrations , but above all he was a master of pastels . In his extensive, mostly small-format work, he captured the surroundings of his homeland in atmospheric pictures.
