After its closure, Kögel went to the GDR, played and staged at the theaters in Meiningen and Magdeburg , and then went to the Brandenburg State Theater , which later became the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam . After working here for many years as senior director, he started working as a freelance actor and director for German television in the 1960s .
