Heinz Keune

Heinrich Heinz Keune (also: Heinz Keune and Heinrich Keune ; * December 13, 1881 in Hanover ; † January 4, 1946 in Berlin ) was a German graphic and type artist .

Heinrich Heinz Keune grew up in Hanover and initially completed an apprenticeship as a decorative painter and then trained at the Hanover School of Applied Arts . Keune initially worked as an advertising artist at his birthplace and in Leipzig . From the beginning of the 20th century he developed various typographical fonts influenced by Art Nouveau , especially for the Leipzig type foundry Schelter & Giesecke . From 1903 Keune also worked as a freelance graphic artist in Weimar and Berlin .

From 1908 to 1910 Keune also underwent further training at the Leipzig Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Trade , before returning to his hometown in 1911. In 1914, Heinz Keune moved to Berlin, where he worked as a teacher at what was then the Royal Art School in Berlin in 1915 . From 1918 to 1920 Keune worked as a teacher for artistic writing at the Academic College for Fine Arts in Berlin-Charlottenburg , around 1920 he switched to the arts and crafts school in East Berlin . He died in Berlin in 1946.

Other works

One of the internationally best known works by Heinz Keune is the “Artist's War Postcard No. 1, produced in Hanover in the context of the relationship between the German Emperor Wilhelm II and the Ottoman Empire around the time of the First World War. 1 by JC König & Ebhardt ”. The multi-colored work, reproduced as a striking picture postcard , shows a huge red fez on a hill in front of a fiery sunrise under the title " Orient 's Awakening" , from which a never-ending crowd of soldiers attacking with sabers and rifles under the Turkish flag streams out.
