Heinz Schuster (born May 12, 1930 in Rübenach , today in Koblenz , † September 17, 1986 in Saarbrücken ) was a German theologian and university professor.

life and work

Heinz Schuster studied philosophy and theology in Innsbruck, Trier and Bonn and was ordained a priest in 1955 . In 1962 followed with The practical theology as a scientific theological doctrine on the ever abandoned execution of the church, the doctorate . From 1967 to 1987 he taught as a professor for Catholic theology and religious education at the University of Education in Saarbrücken and, from 1978, as a professor for practical theology at the University of Saarland . How u. a. Karl Lehmann , Johann Baptist Metz or Herbert Vorgrimler was also a Schuster student and assistant to Karl Rahner .

At the first Evangelical Catholic Church Congress in 1971, he and Karl-Heinz Ohlig , another Saarbrücken theology professor, surprised with the thesis that there is no reason to believe that Protestants and Catholics are separated. In the work Does the Catholic Dogma Block the Unity of the Churches? , which Schuster and Ohlig published without theological imprimatur , they consider the differences between Protestant and Catholic Churches, which "not even pastors and religious teachers" could properly explain, as "largely irrelevant".

From 1962 to 1986 Schuster was a member of the Broadcasting Council and the Program Advisory Board of Saarland Broadcasting. In May 1972, at the instigation of Franz Mai , director of the Saarland broadcasting company and former personal assistant to Konrad Adenauer , Schuster was temporarily relieved of his office by the Catholic clergy as broadcasting commissioner, as he had "not prevented CDU-critical statements by fellow believers".

He was a co-founder in 1968 and co-editor of the magazine Imprimatur until his death .
