Heinz Woester

Heinz Woester (born June 7, 1901 in Zurich ; † October 7, 1970 in Ehrwald ) was a Swiss actor .

Life

Woester attended the canton school in Zurich and after graduating, worked as a French and Italian correspondent in Amsterdam . He received his acting training at the Dresden Conservatory with Alice Daffner-Politz .

He made his debut at the Dresden State Theater in 1925 in Goethe's Faust with the Prologue in Heaven and as Valentin. He then worked at the Dresden State Theater until 1935. From 1935 to 1945 he played as a character hero at the Burgtheater Vienna . Roles there included Albrecht in Friedrich Hebbel's Agnes Bernauer (1935), Cassio in Othello (1935), Jason in Das goldene Vlies (1936), Don Manuel in The Bride of Messina (1936), Hohenzollern in The Prince of Homburg (1937 ), Lerse in Götz von Berlichingen (1938), Leicester in Maria Stuart (1939), Bassanio in The Merchant of Venice (1943) and Wrangel in Wallenstein (1943).

From 1945 he worked at the Schauspielhaus Zurich . There he was seen as Prospero in Der Sturm , as Kaiser in Das Käthchen von Heilbronn (1953) and Odysseus in Penthesilea (1954). Tours have taken him to numerous cities in Europe and South America. As a director he worked for the academic theater group of the University of Zurich .

Heinz Woester's film career began in 1940 as Prof. Dr. Eichgraber in the German film production Operetta .

He was married to Annelli Schmitz.
