The Heisenberg-Gymnasium is a high school in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Gladbeck . When it was founded in 1968, there were already two other high schools in the city. However, the Heisenberg Gymnasium was the first in which both girls and boys were taught ( co-education ). Until the upper school reform in the 1970s, it was a mathematics, natural science and social science grammar school .
In 2018 the city council decided that the current high school buildings should be demolished. At the same time, a new building is being built next to it.
In the 2016/2017 school year, 745 students attended Heisenberg High School, 370 of them boys. They were taught by 56 teachers and 10 trainee teachers.
history
The foundation stone for the Langnam School was laid on August 20, 1967 : it was initially called the mathematical and natural science grammar school for boys and girls and the grammar school for women's education . After about a year of construction, the official inauguration took place on August 12, 1968. The reason for the rapid construction of the new grammar school was the "educational emergency" declared in the 1960s.
At the time it was founded, it was the first coeducational grammar school in Gladbeck, as the Ratsgymnasium was an all-boys grammar school and the Riesener grammar school was an all-girls grammar school .
In 1972 the branch with the “Pudding Abitur” qualification was closed, so that from then on the school was called a mathematics, natural science and social science high school for boys and girls . This typification was short-lived, however, since the Reformed Upper School with a course system was introduced in 1974 . This reform meant that the school had to distinguish itself with an independent name. The physicist and Nobel Prize winner Werner Heisenberg was chosen as the patron saint, who approved the naming on March 26, 1974.
management
Since the opening, two senior studies directors have held the office of school management:
- 1968–1993: Herbert Sokolowski
- 1993–2013: Heidrun Schütte-Ständeke
- since August 1, 2013: Peter Hogrebe
building
Today's Heisenberg high school is divided into four parts of the building. Classrooms and specialist rooms are located in both the east and west wings. In the wing for the natural sciences, which was renovated in 2003, there are practice rooms for chemistry and physics . The forum on the east courtyard, also built in 2003, is used for theater and lecture events. The forum also houses music rooms. A music room and the Turkish-German culture café Defne are located in a pavilion.
There are two schoolyards around the building, the east courtyard and the west courtyard. There is a large meadow behind the school. In the west courtyard there are basketball hoops and table tennis tables and an atrium in which lessons can be held in the open air.
The north park is adjacent to the school grounds. The pond there serves as the basis for water analyzes that are carried out in the subject of biology . Sports lessons take place in the municipal gym at the Heisenberg Gymnasium. Next to the east courtyard is the sports field of the football club Preußen Gladbeck. A solar system is installed on the roof of the main building , the savings of which are displayed on a digital display located in the break hall.
In October 2013 it was announced that both the west and east wing for about 20 million euros redeveloped to be. In this context, the city wants to decide whether the building should be completely renovated or demolished and rebuilt. At the beginning of 2019, a small part will be demolished and then a new building will be built next to the old building. The old building will be demolished after its completion.
