Heldinnen is a German feature film by Dietrich Haugk from 1960 based on the comedy Minna von Barnhelm by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing .

action

Saxony, in the 18th century during the Seven Years' War . When Prussian troops, under the command of Major von Tellheim, occupy the town of Barnhelm, the residents are said to have paid a heavy fine. When the city fathers pleadingly assert that the city coffers are empty and the citizens are poor, von Tellheim takes pity and helps the citizens with a sum from his private assets to be able to meet the financial requirements. He is revered as the city's savior and meets beautiful Minna von Barnhelm at a ball, with whom he falls in love. The two become engaged immediately, but von Tellheim has to move on with his regiment.

The film now jumps on for a few years: The war is over and Minna has been waiting in vain for her fiancé to return for years. She decides to go in search of von Tellheim with her maid Franziska, disguised as a male lackey. The two women set off from Saxony in a carriage towards Berlin. On the way, they experience a number of adventures and finally end up in the inn "To the Spanish King", where von Tellheim happened to stay with his servant Just.

During a series of entanglements and a discussion with the major, Minna learns that his generous help in the past has driven him into financial ruin and that the officer no longer considers himself worthy to marry her. In addition, he is being investigated for corruption. Minna does not challenge this in her love for him, but von Tellheim explains to her that his code of honor forbids him to take Minna as his wife, since he is not even able to feed her. Minna does not let herself get rid of and is firmly in love with von Tellheim. Her maid Franziska, meanwhile, falls in love with sergeant Werner, whom she first confronts as a man and then as the man's alleged sister.

production

The comedy heroines was shot by the company Sokal-Film GmbH in the Bavaria Filmstudios and in the old town of Bamberg . The premiere took place in various cities on September 29, 1960.

criticism

3Sat film review: “ Heldinnen was created based on Gotthold Ephraim Lessing's play Minna von Barnhelm , which is one of the most played in Germany. Carried by pointed dialogues and a timeless story, the film adaptation proves to be an equally witty and romantic comedy - also thanks to the actors Marianne Koch, Paul Hubschmid, Johanna von Koczian and Walter Giller. "

Film service: " Heroines - a musical comedy staged very freely based on Lessing's 'Minna von Barnhelm'."

Barbara Gobrecht: "The colored Ufa production" Heldinnen "occasionally and probably involuntarily cites films like" The Marx Brothers in the department store "(which is nowadays received as a pop film) and sometimes presents itself as clothes."
