Helena Cortés

Helena Cortés Gabaudan (born December 13, 1962 in Salamanca ) is a Spanish literary scholar and translator.

Life

Helena Cortés Gabaudan became Professor of German Studies at the University of Vigo in 1992 . In 2005 she was appointed director of the Instituto Cervantes in Bremen and later became director of the Instituto Cervantes Hamburg until 2015 .

Cortés is a translator of German literature into Spanish. Her Hölderlin biography La vida en verso , published in 2014, was named Biography of the Year by the El País newspaper .

Cortés was accepted into the German Academy for Language and Poetry in 2018 .
