Helene Graswander , married Schlechter , (born December 7, 1952 in Kitzbühel ) is a former Austrian ski racer whose strongest discipline was the slalom . She became Austrian champion in 1972 , won two races in the European Cup and was once among the top ten in the World Cup .

Career

Helene Graswander came to skiing through her father, Pepi Graswander, who is an active skier himself, and began regular training at the Kitzbühel Ski Club when she was six . She attended the commercial vocational school and was accepted into the squad of the Austrian Ski Association at the end of the 1960s . Despite several breaks due to injuries (torn ligaments), she won the Austrian Slalom Junior Championship in 1970 in her age group II and in 1971 the FIS Slalom of the Krummholzrennen in Haus im Ennstal .

State champion slalom 1972

In the 1971/72 season , Graswander won a slalom in the newly created European Cup in Saint-Lary-Soulan . She finished third in the slalom discipline and eleventh in the overall European Cup classification. In the same winter, she achieved her greatest success on a national level when she became state champion in slalom at the Austrian championships in 1972 in Hinterstoder . In the 1972/73 season Graswander celebrated another European Cup victory in the slalom of the Staufen Cup in Oberstaufen . In addition, in the winter of 1972/73 she also played several World Cup slalom appearances . She only finished in the points, then the top ten, when she finished tenth in the failed slalom for the Golden Fox in Maribor , in which only 14 of the more than 70 starters were ranked.

Since her results were overall too weak to get a starting place in the first group, Graswander ended her career in the spring of 1973 at the age of only 20.

Private

She then worked in her father's sports shop 'Sport Pepi' in Kitzbühel, which merged with the company 'Kitzsport' after she married the sporting goods merchant Hansjörg Schlechter.

Their daughter was born in 1978.
From 2000 to 2008 Helene Schlechter was the managing director of 'Kitzsport'.
