Helga Gödl (born March 18, 1915 in Kitzbühel , † July 23, 2005 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian and German ski racer . It took several top positions in international races in the late 1930s and early 1940s and won the bronze medal in the downhill at the 1939 World Championship .

Career

After graduating from high school, Gödl began studying sports at the University of Innsbruck and she joined the Innsbruck ski club. Her first successes came in 1937 at the 5th Academic World Winter Games in Zell am See , where she was fourth in downhill and slalom. The following year she won the slalom, downhill and combined at the Academic World Championships in Villars . She managed another victory in the combination of Zakopane . At the Arlberg-Kandahar races in St. Anton , Gödl came second in the downhill and third in the slalom and combined. She did not achieve any top positions at the 1938 World Championships in Engelberg , where she only finished tenth in the combined, but was still the most successful Austrian World Cup participant.

After the annexation of Austria , Gödl started for the German ski association in 1939. With good performances in Kitzbühel (victory in the downhill, second in the combined and third in the slalom), she was accepted into the team for the 1939 World Championships in Zakopane alongside the strong German runners Elisabeth Hoferer , Lisa Resch and above all Christl Cranz . There she won the bronze medal in the downhill behind Cranz and Resch. However, she could not finish the slalom after a fall.

In the winter of 1940 Gödl took third place in the downhill and slalom at the winter sports week in Garmisch , making it second in the combination. The next winter she also achieved her best results in Garmisch. She was fourth in slalom and fifth in downhill and combined. For the world championship in 1941 she could not qualify. After the season Gödl ended her career.
