biography
Herdy was born in Vienna and came to Zell am See in the province of Salzburg during the Second World War , where she learned to ski. After the end of the war, the family moved back to Vienna, which is why Herdy initially had few opportunities to practice ski racing until she came to Tyrol after graduating from school in the mid-1950s , joined the Innsbruck Skier Association and at the relatively old age of 18 with regular Training began. She was accepted into the squad of the Austrian Ski Association and first attracted attention in 1957 when she was second in slalom and combined and third in the downhill in Abetone . At the Parsenn Derby in Davos , she also achieved third place in the same year. In the next two years, further podium places followed in the mostly less occupied FIS B races, but also top 10 placements in strongly occupied A races.
In the winter of 1957/1958 Herdy won a slalom in Kleinwalsertal and one of two giant slaloms in Seefeld . She finished the second Seefeld giant slalom in second position, as well as a combination in Crans-Montana , while she was third in the Lenzerheide slalom . She achieved top 10 places in the downhill runs of the Gamperney Derby in Grabs (sixth) and the Hahnenkamm races in Kitzbühel (ninth). Herdy was not on the podium in the 1958/1959 season, but in the races for the White Ribbon in St. Moritz she reached fourth place in slalom and giant slalom, ninth place in the downhill and thus fifth place in the combination. In addition, she achieved a fifth place in the giant slalom in Innsbruck.
After the winter of 1958/1959, Herdy largely withdrew from ski racing. She completed her training as a state-certified ski instructor, worked for several years as a ski instructor on the Arlberg and ran a pension with her first husband in Lech . She later moved to Germany , where she lives with her second husband.
