Helge Krog (born February 9, 1889 in Kristiania ; † July 30, 1962 there ) was a Norwegian playwright , translator and literary critic.

Life

Krog was the son of Norway's first student, Cecilie Thoresen , and a lawyer. From 1907 to 1911 he studied economics in Kristiania . He then worked as a journalist for the magazines Verdens Gang , Dagbladet and Arbeiderbladet . During this time he came into contact with Gunnar Heiberg and Olaf Bull , who had a strong influence on him. In 1917 he made his debut as a playwright with Det store Vi . His works are shaped by socialist ideas.

In 1923, Krog joined Mot Dag , an organization of radical left intellectuals. During the war , Krog lived in Sweden . After the war he became an employee of the left-wing newspaper Orientering . He published the 6th column , in which he condemned Norwegian industrialists who had collaborated with the Nazis . He was also a critic of Norway's membership of NATO .

Krog translated Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde into Norwegian .

Helge Krog had been married to the Norwegian actress Tordis Maurstad since 1949 and was the stepfather of the actor Toralv Maurstad .
