Toralv Maurstad (born November 24, 1926 in Bærum ) is a Norwegian actor , director and theater director .

Life

Maurstad trained as an actor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London from 1949 to 1949 . At first he only appeared in supporting roles, his debut as a leading actor had in 1949 at Trøndelag Teater . In 1951 Maurstad moved to Oslo and then worked at the Det Nye Teater . He had his first big appearance in the film in 1951 in Kranes konditori .

From 1954 Maurstad was Nationaltheatret active in Oslo, where he worked on a series of comedies participated and contemporary plays, such as, among others, in John Osborne's Look Back in Anger ( Look Back in Anger ). In 1962 he was awarded the Aamot statuette and in 1963 he was awarded the Critic's Prize in the Theater Critic's Prize category . Also participated in some classical interpretations, such as Puck in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and starred in Erasmus Montanus , Peer Gynt and Brand . His most famous appearance was in 1961 in a guest role at Det Norske Teatret in the performance One Long Day Journey into the Night by Eugene O'Neill .

Maurstad was theater director at Oslo Nye Teater from 1967 to 1977 and then at the Nationaltheatret from 1978 to 1986. His times as theater director at both houses were marked by great artistic successes, but also with unrest. B. when eight actors called for a strike at the National Theater.

After 1986 he worked as a freelancer at various Norwegian theaters until he retired. Furthermore, Maurstad appeared as an actor in several films and television series until 2011 .

Toralv Maurstad is the son of the actor couple Alfred Maurstad and Tordis Maurstad and the half-brother of the actress Mari Maurstad . He was first married to the Swedish actress Eva Henning , then married to Anne-Ma Burum . On New Year's Eve 1999, at the age of 73, he married the then 39-year-old Norwegian actress and director Beate Eriksen . In 2001 one of the couple's applications to adopt a child was rejected because Maurstad was deemed to be too old, as in Norway adoptive parents must be between the ages of 25 and 45.
