Helge Patzak (born September 2, 1974 in Trier ) is a German basketball coach and former player. As a player, Patzak won the German Cup in 1998, still together with his brother Jörn Patzak , and in 2001 . A year later, in 2002, Patzak, like his three years older brother, ended his active career in higher-class leagues. The high school teacher then worked as a coach and was able to bring the Trier first division reserve into the third-highest division in 2007. Later Patzak worked as a first class coach in Luxembourg . After two years with the previous promoted team Arantia Larochette, Patzak trained the former master AB Contern in the 2015/16 season.

Career

In 1996 Patzak moved up to the top division of TVG Trier in his hometown, to which his brother Jörn Patzak , who was three years older, already belonged. In 1998 the club, which has played first-class for the men since 1990, achieved its first national title success by winning the cup competition. While his brother concentrated on his further professional career after completing his studies, Helge Patzak initially continued to belong to the first division squad. As a result of the Bosman decision and the extensive release of previously existing restrictions, however, he was exposed to increased competition from foreign players. Nevertheless, in the seasons 1999/2000 to 2002 Patzak managed to play more than ten minutes per game, which was remarkable for German players at the time. After the entry of a new name sponsor , another cup victory was achieved in 2001, but this was followed by the insolvency of the sponsor and the Trier game operating company. In the basketball Bundesliga 2001/02 it was enough to stay up in the sport before Helge Patzak ended his active career in higher-class leagues and concentrated on his further career as a high school teacher after completing his studies.

The professional Trier first division team TBB had separated from the former club TV Germania at the latest with the bankruptcy of 2001 and subsequently cooperated with the DJK / MJC from Trier in the youth and amateur area. Patzak took over the first team of the MJC in the league in 2005 and was able to lead the "reserve" of the TBB after two ascents in a row, including together with his former teammate Charly Brown , in the then third-highest division regional league before he took office in December 2007 made available. Later Patzak, who worked as a grammar school teacher in Wittlich and was also a temporary columnist for the Trierischer Volksfreund , worked as a basketball trainer in Luxembourg . In 2013, Patzak moved from third division Les Esperants from Wasserbillig to first division promoted BBC Arantia Larochette from Fels . At this club, however, he was dismissed in March 2015 before he got a new contract with the former champions Amis du Basket-Ball from Contern at the end of the season . He stayed there until the end of the 2015/16 season.
