Heliconia latispatha is a species ofthe Heliconia family (Heliconiaceae). It is native to Central America.
description
Heliconia latispatha is an evergreen, perennial, herbaceous plant , vegetatively similar to a banana plant and with a height of 2 to 4 meters. There are three to five green leaves per shoot , the longest being up to 150 centimeters long and 33 centimeters wide, usually with a fine red-brown edge.
Up to 45 centimeters long inflorescences stand upright, the inflorescence can be found eight to thirteen spirally arranged support blades , and the mean is in each case outside orange to red and glabrous.
Each wrap consists of 10 to 15 flowers , the flower envelope is green, yellow or orange, the calyx leaf margins dark green and glabrous, occasionally hairy and slightly downy.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
distribution
Heliconia latispatha is native from Mexico to Peru and Venezuela; the species is often found in open secondary vegetation and freshly cleared areas, favored by its high tolerance to heat and drought.

The species was first described by George Bentham in 1846 .
