The Helios Klinik Volkach is a hospital in Volkach, Lower Franconia . The house provides basic medical care for the local population and is included in the Bavarian hospital plan. Until 1992, the house was publicly owned under the name Volkach District Hospital .

history

As early as 1462 there was evidence of a so-called infirmary outside the city. Mainly lepers were cared for here. In addition, in the late Middle Ages there was the “Seelhaus” next to the Michaelskapelle on the Upper Market , which had emerged from a foundation. In 1607, the Würzburg prince-bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn set up a small "Juliusspital" in the village, similar to its Würzburg counterpart, it provided patient care.

However, nursing in Volkach did not become more professional until the 19th century. The city and its surrounding area became a separate district in the Volkach Regional Court , which also had to provide a district hospital. This was opened on May 15, 1857 at today's Sommeracher Straße 14 and was equipped with a bathhouse and a chapel. On May 28, 1857, nursing was handed over to the Würzburg " Daughters of the Divine Redeemer ".

Initially, the house established itself as an affiliated hospital . In 1895 a new quarter was opened in the east of the old city and the move began. A spacious new building was built between 1895 and 1897. Again, it was designed as a private hospital and in 1914 already had 27 beds. During the Second World War , the house was expanded, a gable roof was installed and the roof space expanded.

After the end of the world war, the Würzburg hospitals were largely destroyed. Therefore, the medical university outpatient clinic moved into the premises of the institution, which has since been promoted to a district hospital. Now that was the district hospital Volkach converted with some salaried physicians at a hospital hospital. The first medical directors were the doctors Naumann and Lutz Reinäcker. The polyclinic was able to return to Würzburg as early as 1949.

The district of Gerolzhofen , to which Volkach belonged, planned to continue the house as an institutional hospital and increased the number of beds to 68. In 1965 Friedrich Heck became chief surgeon. The internal department , which had previously existed alongside surgery, was finally closed in 1974. From then on, the district hospital was the center for surgery in the Gerolzhofen district.

Ongoing investments in the premises and an urgent modernization resulted in constant costs for the district. Nevertheless, in 1969 an expansion to 100 beds was planned. The regional reform and the dissolution of the district, however, destroyed these plans. In addition, gave sisters who had previously done nursing, in 1975 their station in Volkach on.

Now the voluntary Förderring Kreiskrankenhaus Volkach took over the charitable tasks. From then on, Volkach was in the Kitzingen district . In addition to the houses in Kitzingen and Volkach, there were hospitals in Dettelbach , Marktbreit and Iphofen . In 1979 the district council decided that only Kitzingen and Volkach should remain. For the first time it was achieved that Volkach was included in the Bavarian hospital plan for supplying the northern district.

In 1980 the X-ray department was expanded and a new anesthesia department was built in 1986. In 1990 new hospital rooms were fitted out and an operating theater was built . In the fall of 1991 the district council planned to invest 19.6 million DM for a further expansion. A year later, however, it was clear that the district could no longer bear the high costs for the hospital and the district hospital should be closed.

A signature campaign saved the Volkach hospital. On October 1, 1993, it was taken over by the private Asklepios clinics , which expanded the house further. By 1997 the hospital was completely rebuilt, with a new bed wing being built and it was again converted into a hospital with 46 beds. In September 1997 the house came to the Helios Kliniken GmbH Berlin by real division .

Departments

The clinic can accommodate a total of 32 patients. Surgery was established as a specialty. This general direction specializes in the following areas:

The clinic on Schaubmühlstrasse

Volkach Medical Center (MVZ)

In addition to the hospital, there is a specialist medical center in Volkach as a medical care center (MVZ) . In the fields of anesthesia and surgery, it offers outpatient nursing and is operated by several specialist doctors. Due to the proximity, the hospital and the center share the same building, it is possible to combine the care of outpatients and inpatients.

The specialist center for anesthesia has a total of four doctors and six doctors work in surgery. Sports surgical interventions in particular are carried out in the specialist center.
