The Helios Mariahilf Klinik Hamburg is a basic and standard care hospital in the south of Hamburg , in the Heimfeld district . It belongs to the Helios Kliniken Group and specializes in the care of women and children in the southern Elbe region - it is the only maternity clinic south of the Elbe. The clinic has around 400 employees and 183 beds. The Helios Mariahilf Klinik Hamburg is an academic teaching hospital of the University of Hamburg .

history

On May 22nd, 1900 the Mariahilf Hospital was founded by Pastor Johannes Meyer with the nuns Beda, Valeria, Calixta and Jacoba. Although Northern Germany was Protestant at the time, the Catholic community south of the Elbe grew at the same time due to the expansion of the Port of Hamburg.

It is thanks to the great commitment of the Sisters of Mercy that the hospital grew and developed very quickly. In 1906 a school building was acquired and further neighboring houses were added by 1914.

During the First World War , Mariahilf was converted into a hospital . Regular hospital operations were resumed immediately after the end of the war. As early as the 1920s , the house was expanded to include a surgical , an interior and a children's department.

At the time of National Socialism , the house ran into difficulties again because church facilities were not of great importance.

In 1946 the Mariahilf was able to acquire the villa of the Hamburg manufacturer HCMeyer. The building was in the middle of a picturesque park, but had to be adapted to the new requirements. From 1948, the new building was expanded to include an operating theater , a laboratory , an X-ray unit , treatment and utility rooms and several medical wards.

On June 13, 1959, a new seven-story ward block was inaugurated to cope with the increasing number of patients, especially in the area of births .

In 1979 the capacities were expanded one more time. The children's ward received 18 new beds through the construction of a pavilion.

In 2007 the Mariahilf Hospital was taken over by the Helios Kliniken Group . After just a few years, the new carrier decided to build a new clinic directly on Stader Strasse in order to meet the most modern medical standards in the future.

The move to the new building took place in June 2015. Today, a total of ten specialist departments are represented here, caring for patients in 183 planned beds.

New building

In April 2013, construction work began on the planned new building directly on Stader Strasse. For this purpose, the former nurses' dormitory was first torn down to make space for a 75-meter-long and 45-meter-wide low-energy house with five levels. The cost of the construction was 42 million euros, of which the Hamburg authority for health and consumer protection made a funding amount of 20 million available. The remaining investment costs were borne by Helios.

Since May 26, 2015, the new clinic has been replacing the aging ward block in order to guarantee quality care for patients. Since June 1, 2015, all medical care has taken place in the new building.

Departments

The range of services at the Helios Mariahilf Klinik Hamburg comprises a total of ten specialist areas . The woman-mother-child center is the main focus of the clinic.

Centers

The individual departments of the clinic work together in interdisciplinary centers to provide the best possible care for patients:

  • Breast center
  • Endoprosthetics Center
  • Trauma center
  • Heart Center Süderelbe
  • Perinatal Center Level II

Functional areas

Within the four functional areas, the clinic has all the technical conditions for comprehensive diagnostics:

Reorganization of birth and emergency care

Based on a joint decision by the Hamburg Authority for Health and Consumer Protection as well as the Asklepios Clinic Harburg (AKH) and the Helios Mariahilf Clinic Hamburg, a reorganization of the birth and emergency care in the Süderelbe took place in 2017.

Since January 1, 2017, the Helios Mariahilf Klinik Hamburg has been the only maternity clinic south of the Elbe - the gynecology and obstetrics at the AKH were closed at the same time. The Helios Mariahilf Klinik Hamburg has been providing gynecological care since April 1, 2017.

Since July 1, 2017, the emergency department of the Helios Mariahilf Klinik Hamburg has been concentrating on its existing focus, i.e. the care of children and women with gynecological complaints. The additional emergency care has since taken place at the AKH.
