The Hellbühler Rotbach is a 21 km long left tributary of the Reuss in the Swiss canton of Lucerne . It drains an area of around 81 square kilometers in the east of the canton.

course

The river has its source at 655 meters in the Ziswilermoos near the Unterziswil homestead in the municipality of Ruswil . First it flows to the east through a flat valley, after the confluence of a source brook from the sulfur forest it forms the municipal boundary to Malters and then runs in a north-easterly direction between Rüti and Lampigen to Hellbühl . In a narrow, wooded ravine, it leads past the village of Hellbühl on the south side and takes in several small side streams. At Hellbühl, the brook drove the waterworks of a sawmill from which today's Dahinden Sägewerk AG emerged.

The Rotbach forms a section of the border between the communities of Malters and Neuenkirch and then, from the confluence of the Limbach, the border between Neuenkirch and Lucerne .

The Rotbach is now mostly accompanied by a forest border and passes over completely to the municipality of Lucerne at Hof Neustechenrain. The Stechenrainmühle is located here by the stream. A little later it crosses the border to the municipality of Emmen , where it is dammed into the small Rainmüliweier. At the Lohrensäge, it crosses the main road from Emmenbrücke to Neuenkirch, then the Sursee – Lucerne railway line and the A2 . At the northern edge of the Riffigwald it flows in a constantly deepening valley and forms the border between Rothenburg and Emmen. In this area it includes the Buzibach, the Gerbebach and the outflow of the Riffigweiher . The old wooden bridge and a new road bridge cross the stream near the old center of Rothenburg.

At the end of the Rotbachtobel, the Rotbach enters the Reuss plain, flows north past the Emmen military airfield and passes under its runway. After the village Waltwil he enters the Under Schiltwald where it the Forest Ibach accrue from the left and other source streams. At the Mettlen substation it emerges from the forest again and flows through the fields south of Inwil , always accompanied by a forest edge. He created a natural moat under the Alt-Eschenbach castle site . Here it takes up the Schwinibach from the left , which forms the lower reaches of the Hiltigbach. The last section of the stream was laid when the A 14 motorway was being built . The Rotbach crosses under the motorway at the hamlet of Emmendingen and flows into the Reuss at St. Katharina.
