Hellmuth Kleinsorge

Hellmuth Kleinsorge (born April 12, 1920 in Beuel ; † July 7, 2001 ) was a German physician.

Life

Kleinsorge was appointed director of the Medical Polyclinic in Jena in 1953 after completing his habilitation . From 1958 to 1960 he was Dean of the Medical Faculty in Jena. In 1953 he demonstrated the blood sugar lowering effect of the sulfonylurea carbutamide for the first time . In 1958 he discovered the antiarrhythmic effect of Ajmalins .

Because of the refusal to approve the building of the wall, he left Jena in 1962 and became medical director of the Schwerin district hospital . In 1968 he fled to the Federal Republic of Germany. There he became head of research at Knoll AG , later BASF, and received a professorship at the Faculty of Clinical Medicine Mannheim at Heidelberg University.

From 1981 to 1987 he was the managing director of the Medical-Pharmaceutical Study Society and scientific advisor to the Paul Martini Foundation. From 1987 to 1992 he was one of the editors of the Neue Ärztliche , a daily newspaper for doctors from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung .

In addition, from 1986 to 1997 he was a member of the approval committee A of the Federal Health Office and, after its dissolution and restructuring of the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, as a member or as deputy chairman.

Until his death, Hellmuth Kleinsorge worked as a consultant for scientific publishers, pharmaceutical companies and government agencies.
