Helmut Engel , known as an artist under the name of Helmut Engel-Musehold (born July 21, 1956 in Heidenheim an der Brenz ) is a German jazz musician , composer and lecturer .

Life

He plays tenor saxophone , alto saxophone , soprano saxophone , bass flute , flute , piccolo , bamboo flutes , recorders , ocarina , Jew's harp , percussion , Midi saxophone , voice , objects.

The multi-instrumentalist who lives in Berlin is one of the most successful German musicians and composers in the border area of jazz . He played u. a. with David Friedman , Trilok Gurtu , Markus Stockhausen , Carlos Bica , Gebhard Ullmann and Elena Ledda . Of the three CDs made between 1989 and 1996 by The Silent Jazz Ensemble , which he directed, over 25,000 copies were sold in Germany, according to the record company.

From 1987 to 2010 he was a lecturer at the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Music School in Berlin, now gives private lessons and leads workshops on various topics at home and abroad. As a composer he writes music for film, television, radio and theater. Among other things, he wrote the music for the documentary Andiamo! . He has also appeared in solo programs, for example at the Landesgartenschau Heidenheim, and since 2011 in a duo with Roberto Badoglio. In 2014, after a 15-year break, he revived the Silent Jazz Ensemble with two CD releases.
