Helmut M. Niegemann

Helmut M. Niegemann (born May 14, 1947 in Völklingen ) is an educational and media psychologist and university professor .

Career

After graduating from the secondary school in Völklingen, Niegemann studied sociology and education in Saarbrücken . After the master’s examination in 1971, he was employed as a teacher at a vocational training center in Saarland and worked as a research assistant in the educational science department at Saarland University .

In 1978 he received a doctorate in educational science and educational psychology . Niegemann then worked as a university assistant (1980–1986), employee of a Mannheim media publisher (1986–1988) and as a freelance lecturer and learning program author (1988–1991).

From 1992 Niegemann headed research projects at the University of Mannheim . In 1993, he completed his habilitation at Saarland University and was awarded the Venia Legendi in the subject of educational sciences. From 1994 to 1996 he was a substitute professor for educational psychology and developmental psychology at the TH Darmstadt . In 1997 he was appointed head of the Didactic Design department of the German Institute for Distance Learning Research (DIFF) at the University of Tübingen (until 2000).

In 1998 Niegemann became an adjunct professor for educational sciences at Saarland University. From 1999 to 2001 Niegemann took over the representation of the professorship for media conception / digital media at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies (IfMK) of the Technical University of Ilmenau and from 2001 to 2003 the university professorship for media conception / digital media.

From 2003 Niegemann held the chair for learning and new media at the University of Erfurt . In the same year he became director of the Center for Teaching / Learning and Educational Research (ZLB; until 2009). Since 2008 he has been a Liaison Lecturer at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom . From 2009 to 2012 he was a member of the management group of the university focus on education at the University of Erfurt and also a member of the management group "Children's Heads - Learning, Teaching, Media Socialization" (focus on education at the University of Erfurt). Also until 2012 he was the head of the online course " Instruction Design and Educational Technology" at the University of Erfurt. Since May 1, 2013 he has been visiting professor at Saarland University and since December 2016 honorary professor for educational technology there.

Niegemann has been retired in Erfurt since 2012, but has also been a senior professor for business education at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main since 2014 .

Helmut Niegemann is a member of the scientific advisory board of the journals Educational Research Review and Empirical Pedagogy .
