Helmut Schauer (computer scientist)

Helmut Schauer (born December 3, 1943 in Vienna ) is an Austrian computer scientist and university professor.

Schauer studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Vienna , where he graduated in 1968. In 1972 he also received his doctorate in computer science there.

From 1968 to 1984 Helmut Schauer was a university assistant at the Technical University of Vienna. His teaching focus was on software. In 1984 he became chairman of the commercial data processing department. In 1985 Schauer became an associate professor at the Vienna University of Technology.

In 1988 he left the Technical University of Vienna and moved to the University of Zurich . There he was head of the "Educational Engineering Lab". Schauer held lectures in the subjects "Formal Foundations of Computer Science", "Algorithms and Data Structures" and "Educational Technologies", as well as the lecture "Basics of Computer Science" at the Vienna University of Technology .

Helmut Schauer retired from his professorship at the University of Zurich in February 2009 . In 2017 he was made an honorary member of the Austrian Computer Society .
