Helmut Schranz (born March 25, 1941 in St. Anton am Arlberg , Tyrol ) is a former Austrian ski racer .

Karl Schranz's younger brother started skiing at the age of eight. He achieved his first top spots in 1960 when he finished second and fifth in the giant slalom in Seefeld . In the winter of 1961 he won all competitions at the Austrian junior championships and took third place in the slalom in Kranjska Gora and in the giant slalom in Lenggries and on the Krippenstein . At the busy Arlberg-Kandahar races in Mürren , he finished fifth in the slalom and eighth in the combination. He achieved further podium places in 1962 in the slalom in Zell am See and in the giant slalom in Arosa .

Schranz celebrated his first victory in 1963 in the slalom of Poiana Brașov , in the combination there he came in fourth. The following winter he was only in the top three in the Voss slalom . The Tyrolean won his second victory in 1965 in the giant slalom on the Axamer Lizum , and took two third places in the Sondrio slalom and the Maria Zell giant slalom . After the winter he ended his career with the amateurs and drove 1965/66 professional races in the USA , where he achieved some good placements. After this season he finally ended his career.
