Helmut Staubmann (born March 7, 1956 in Judenburg ) is an Austrian sociologist . He is professor for sociological theory and cultural sociology at the University of Innsbruck . He was visiting professor at the Austrian universities in Graz , Linz and Salzburg , furthermore at the FU Bozen , at the Charles University in Prague (Erasmus Lecturer), at the Kobe University and at the University of Tennessee / Knoxville. From 2013 to 2015 he was President of the Austrian Society for Sociology .

Scientific career

Helmut Staubmann studied sociology at the University of Vienna and at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Vienna. In 1994 he completed his habilitation in sociology at the University of Innsbruck. In 1991/92 he was Erwin Schrödinger's scholarship holder at UCLA and the University of Maryland, College Park. From 1994 to 1997 he was an APART scholar of the Austrian Academy of Sciences at the University of Chicago , Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania , Philadelphia. He spent the 2012/13 academic year as a visiting scholar at Harvard University . Since 2013 he has been Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology at the University of Innsbruck.
