Helmut Thöm

Helmut Thöm (* 1939 in Berlin ) is a German engineer and university professor . He was professor for control engineering and control technology at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg).

Life

In 1960, Thöm passed  his Abitur at the model school in Frankfurt am Main , and then studied electrical engineering in Darmstadt . In 1976 his doctoral thesis (title: "Modeling for the course behavior of ships") was accepted at the Technical University of Darmstadt . Thöm initially worked at AEG Telefunken , from 1984 to 2005 he held a professorship for control engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Production at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. During his academic career, Thöm stayed temporarily as a guest lecturer in Shanghai and St. Petersburg .

From 1984 to 1988 he was chairman of SC Rist Wedel . In 1987 Thöm was one of the founding members of the Freundeskreis Maschinenbau und Produktion Berliner Tor eV and was deputy chairman of the association's board from 1987 to 1993. Thöm, who at the age of over 78 was still involved in sports such as kite surfing , snowboarding , tennis and basketball , was active in local politics for the FDP in Wedel , including as councilor and board member of the FDP local association.
