Helmut Ulrich (table tennis player)

Helmut Ulrich (born August 17, 1913 in Düsseldorf , † April 16, 1970 in Düsseldorf-Benrath ) was a German table tennis player .

Career

Ulrich used to play in Hamburg. With the team from Nordmark he won the Gaume Championship in 1936. He took part in the World Championships in 1936 in Prague and in 1937 in Baden (Austria). Both times he reached 11th place with the German team.

In 1936 he reached the semi-finals in mixed with Annemarie Schulz . After victories over Maurice Bergl / Karleckova (England / CSSR), Ken Hyde / Dinah Newey (England) and Václav Tereba / Marie Kettnerová (CSSR), they lost to the Hungarian couple István Kelen / Mária Mednyánszky . In the singles Ulrich lost to Vasile Marin-Goldberger (Romania) and also the doubles with Erich Deisler was eliminated in the first round against Vaclav Sneberger / Sramek (CSSR).

At the 1937 World Cup, there was no victory in the individual competitions. In singles he was defeated by Erwin Kaspar (Austria), in doubles with Erwin Münchow to the Americans Sol Schiff / Abe Berenbaum and in mixed with Annemarie Schulz to the Hungarians László Bellák / Anna Sipos .

He was nominated for a total of 16 international matches. In 1936 he was ranked second in the German ranking.

After the Second World War , Ulrich first played at Borussia Düsseldorf before moving to Tusa 08 Düsseldorf in 1956 .
