Erwin Münchow (table tennis player)

Erwin Münchow (around 1916; † 1970 ) is a former German table tennis player . He took part in two world championships .

Career

Münchow won the first German team championship in 1932/33 with the Kiel TTK Grün-Weiß club . In 1937 and 1938 he took part in world championships .

At the 1937 World Cup he lost in the first round both in singles against Hungary's Ferenc Soos and in doubles with Helmut Ulrich against Sol Schiff / Abe Berenbaum (USA). The German team finished eleventh. In 1938 he won the singles against Morris Bassford (USA) and William Goodman (England), then he lost to the Lithuanian Chaimas Duskesas. In doubles with J. Meredith (Wales) he was eliminated in the first round against James McClure / Sol Schiff (USA). With the German team, he came in 10th.

At the National German Championships in 1943 he was third in the individual. In doubles he reached the final with Heinz Benthien . Here they were subject to the Austrians Herbert Wunsch / Heinrich Bednar , who were eligible to play for Germany after the annexation of Austria . In 1949 he was second in mixed with Inge Clausen.

In the German rankings, Münchow took ninth place in 1947/48 and 1949/50. In 1953 he was elected to the referee committee at the federal general assembly of the German Table Tennis Federation DTTB in Edenkoben .

Münchow died in 1970 at the age of 54. He last lived in Herford.
