Herbert Wunsch (born February 23, 1917 in Vienna , † December 24, 1970 in Vienna) was an Austrian table tennis player . While Austria was part of the " Greater German Reich ", he was twice German champion in the individual.

Life

Herbert Wunsch earned his living as a commercial clerk. On October 8, 1955 he married the table tennis player Hedwig (Hedy) Matrinsky (Austrian champion from 1957, still active in the Vienna table tennis association WTTV until 2003, died in 2016; namesake of the Hedy-Wunsch-Park ). In 1970 Herbert Wunsch died. He was buried in the Atzgersdorf cemetery in Vienna .

Athletic career

Herbert Wunsch played in various Austrian table tennis clubs. Similar to Trude Pritzi , after the annexation of Austria to Germany, from 1940 he regularly took part successfully in the German championships. He became German champion several times, twice in singles, three times in doubles and three times in mixed.

After the war he played for Austria again. In 1948 he finished third at the World Championships in London, both in doubles and with the Austrian team. He was also Austrian champion in doubles in 1946.

Desire represented Austria in the Swaythling Club International .
