Helmut Wagner (economist)

Helmut Wagner (born August 24, 1951 in Schwandorf ) is a German economist .

Life

Wagner studied economics , sociology , education and mathematics at the University of Regensburg from 1970 to 1977 . In 1974 he earned the degree of a graduate economist and the following year to a diploma - sociologists . In 1976 he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. pole. and completed his habilitation in 1981 at RWTH Aachen . During the last two decades he was visiting professor a. a. at the University of California (1982–83), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (1987), the Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies of the Japanese Central Bank (1988), at Princeton University (1991–92 and 2006–07) , at AICGS / Johns Hopkins University (1997) and at NBER as well as at Harvard University (2000). In addition, Wagner advised the IMF and the EU Commission more often . Since 1995 he has held the chair for economics, especially macroeconomics at the FernUniversität in Hagen , previously in Hamburg ; he is also director at the Hagen Institute for Management Studies.
