Helmuth Froschauer (director)

Helmuth Froschauer (born September 9, 1939 in Salzburg , † August 11, 1986 in Locarno ) was an Austrian director .

Life

Froschauer completed his studies and training in Vienna . He had his first engagements in the early 1960s at the local theater in der Josefstadt . In 1971 he became senior director at the Salzburg State Theater . He then worked as a freelance director in Germany and Austria. In 1982 he staged the operetta Die Csárdásfürstin at the Raimund Theater in Vienna in a new production on the occasion of the 100th birthday of the composer Emmerich Kálmán . At the Theater am Dom in Cologne he staged the comedy His best friend by William Douglas-Home ; the production was also recorded for television and broadcast on ARD in 1986 . Froschauer has also directed several radio productions for ORF .

Froschauer was married to the Austrian actress Dolores Schmidinger . From this marriage a daughter was born (* 1979). The film producer Wolfgang Froschauer emerged from his marriage to the historian Irmtraut Froschauer. Helmuth Froschauer's grave is in the Salzburg municipal cemetery .
