Helmuth Hörstmann

Helmuth Hörstmann (born December 7, 1909 in Bad Essen , † April 3, 1993 in Celle ) was a doctor and Lord Mayor of the city of Celle.

Life

Hörstmann graduated from high school in Celle at Easter 1931 and then began studying medicine at the University of Berlin . There he became a member of the Teutonia fraternity in 1931 . In 1934 he became a member of the Teutonia Zurich fraternity . In the summer of 1934 he moved to the University of Königsberg and later to the Universities of Zurich and Kiel . In 1937 he passed the medical state examination in Berlin and was then a medical intern at the Rudolf Virchow Clinic . At the end of 1938 he became an assistant doctor in the hospital of the Paul-Gerhardt-Stift in Berlin-Wilmersdorf . In December 1939 Hörstmann was promoted to Dr. med. PhD at the University of Berlin (" Surgery in cystic kidneys "). He then worked as an assistant doctor at the Achenbach Hospital in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, as a senior physician at the Berlin-Wilmersdorf Municipal Hospital and as a senior physician in the surgical department of the Cecilien Hospital in Landsberg / Warthe . From 1944 he worked there as a part-time company doctor in the foreign labor camp of the IG-Farben plant. After the Second World War , Hörstmann was initially acting chief physician at the Friedrichshain Municipal Hospital . Around 1948 he moved to Celle as a general surgeon.

During the National Socialist era , Hörstmann was a member of the NSDAP ( membership number 4,831,946) and the SS (membership number 155,951) from 1933 . From 1937 Hörstmann acted as the deputy standard doctor of the SS medical staff II / 42. On April 20, 1939 he was promoted to SS-Untersturmführer . On January 30, 1942, he was promoted to SS-Obersturmführer . He was now head of this SS medical unit. Because of Hörstmann's past as an SS officer, the city council of Celle decided on February 11, 2011 to rename the "Helmuth-Hörstmann-Weg", named after it, to "Am Französischer Garten".

In 1942 Helmuth Hörstmann and Ilsetraud Streitberger († April 5, 1992) married, and together they had three sons.
