Hema Upadhyay

Hema Upadhyay , until 1998 Hema Hirani (* 1972 in Baroda , India ; † December 11, 2015 in Mumbai ), was an Indian artist who worked with photography , sculpture and installation , among other things .

Life

Upadhyay studied art at the university in her hometown. There she completed the subject of painting with a bachelor's degree and the subject of printing with a Master of Fine Arts in 1997 . Since 1998 she has lived and worked in Mumbai under her new name. There she had her first solo exhibition in the Chemould Gallery that same year . Afterwards she became known through numerous solo and group exhibitions both in India and internationally.

Upadhyay was murdered along with her lawyer in Mumbai on December 11, 2015.
