Hemitomes congestum is a plant from the family of the Ericaceae (Ericaceae) and the only species in the genus.
description
Hemitomes congestum is a chlorophyllless , myco-heterotrophic herbaceous plant . Their roots are fibrous, the shoot and inflorescence axis sprouting from them stands upright and is creamy white to reddish. The leaves are simple, there are no previous leaves .
The inflorescence is one to multiple flowered, branching is possible. The flowers are four to six-fold, sepals and bracts are present. The crown is tubular to bell-shaped, the petals are fused together. The stamens are around two thirds as long as the crown, the anthers do not turn around and are slit lengthways. The stylus is permanent, the scar enlarged.
The ovary is eightfold and has parietal placentation . The fruit is berry-like, the seeds are elliptical and thick-skinned.
The seeds are linear, thin-walled and have elongated cells. The number of chromosomes is n = 13.
distribution
The species is found in the western United States at altitudes between 30 and 2700 meters.
