Hen Cliff

Hen Cliff is a cliff on the English Channel coast on the Isle of Purbeck in the county of Dorset on the south coast of England .

Hen Cliff cliff runs eastward from the eastern end of Kimmeridge Bay (below a folly named Clavell Tower ) to an area called Cuddle. The rock walls are made up of multiple layers of Jura rocks, Portland limestone , Purbeck stone, and slate. The rock is fossil , but also very fragile, rockfalls happen here frequently and are very dangerous. Yellow Ledge is the prominent Kimmeridgium ledge, a band of stones, at the east end of Hen Cliff. The term Kimmeridgium was introduced by Jules Thurmann in 1832. It is the Latinized name of the village of Kimmeridge. The Kimmeridgium is a level of the Upper Jurassic (Malm).

From Orcombe Point , in the west, to the Isle of Purbeck , in the east, stretches a stretch of coastline, which was the first natural landscape in England to be declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO . Hen Cliff's rock faces are part of the Jurassic Coast , one of the natural wonders of the world and the coast is known for its fossils .
