from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hendrikje Kühne and Beat Klein are a Swiss artist couple with visual productions in various techniques, which mainly use the collage in pictures and sculptures . Her artistic forms of expression also include installations ( including photo , video and book). Their joint artistic activity began in 1998.

Hendrikje Kühne

Hendrikje Kühne was born on February 19, 1962 in Darmstadt . Since her father found a job in the Basel chemical industry, the family moved to Switzerland near Basel in 1965. From 1982 to 1984 Hendrikje Kühne took courses at the Schule für Gestaltung in Basel (today the University of Design and Art HGK), and in 1985 she attended lectures on fine arts at the University of Essen . From 1986 to 1988 she worked in the painting class at the Basel School of Design, and graduated in 1992 with a diploma as a drawing teacher at the Didaktikum Aarau . In 1996 she received a studio grant at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris . A postgraduate course in Design / Art and Innovation at the University of Art and Design in Basel followed from 2004 to 2006.

Beat Klein

Beat Klein was born on June 26, 1956 in Sorengo (Switzerland). He began his artistic training at the schools for design in Basel (today HGKB) and Zurich (today HGKZ ), initially with preliminary courses, which he then continued in the specialist class for works and design. From 1989 to 1992 he took the sculpture class at the School of Design (today HGK) in Basel. In 1991 he received a studio grant at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris.

Joint artistic creation

Hendrikje Kühne and Beat Klein have been working closely together since 1998 and always exhibit their pictures, sculptures and installations as joint works, always under their names. The three-dimensional collage property was the first joint project as part of the Artists' Work program at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin. In 1999 they presented their first solo exhibition in the Kunst Raum Riehen . A central theme - after the properties in property - is now: Cars , implemented primarily in the floor sculpture of the same name, for which thousands (counting once: 58,800!) Car images, cut out from brochures and magazines, were connected by means of a right-angled connector system. Such floor sculptures have to be rebuilt again and again. The number and arrangement of the car images can be varied; Such installations become dynamic with the help of friends and viewers both in setting up the installation and in collecting image material. Material for these installations is provided by product catalogs, magazines or brochures. Landscape pictures emerge from picture postcards and art postcards in which the individual set pieces cannot be recognized at first glance.

In Typical Switzerland (2002) or Grüezi Switzerland (2004) they ironically dealt with tourism in Switzerland.

Shared memories Installation with 3000 slides

"Common memory" is a compilation of 3000 small-format slides, a summation of personal memories of different people.

The Venus' Shells Collage of art postcards relating to Botticelli's birth of Venus
