Henning Carlsen

Henning Carlsen (born June 4, 1927 in Aalborg , Denmark , † May 30, 2014 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish film director , film producer , screenwriter and film editor .

Life

Henning Carlsen was the son of Svend Julius Carlsen, a wool merchant, and Karen Margrethe Ellermann. From 1948 to 1953 he worked at Minerva-Film in Copenhagen, where he assisted the documentary filmmaker Theodor Christensen, among others . From 1953 to 1957 he made several educational and documentary films for Nordisk Film . During this time he studied film in Paris in 1995. From 1968 to 1981 he was director of the Dagmar Teatret in Copenhagen. He also worked occasionally as a journalist for Politiken and Dagbladet Information as well as for Danish radio. In addition to several voluntary activities, he also occasionally taught at Den Danske Filmskole .

With Dilemma Carlsen made his debut in 1962 as a director for a feature film. His two feature films, Hunger und Sie meet, they love each other and their hearts are full of sweet music , both of which he directed , were each awarded the Danish film prize Bodil for Best Danish Film . He was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes International Film Festival for Hunger and Un divorce heureux . In 2012 Carlsen received the Danish Robert Film Award for his life's work. His latest film, Memories of My Melancholy Whores of 2012 turned Carlsen after the novel from 2004, Memories of My Melancholy Whores (Memoria de mis putas tristes) of the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez .

From 1949 to 1969 Carlsen was married to Hjørdis Wirth Jensen, and from 1975 he was married to Else Heidary Christensen. His autobiography was published in 1998 under the title Mit Livs Fortraengninger .
