Henning Helgesson

Henning Helgesson (March 28, 1900 - September 25, 1986 ) was a Swedish football player . The midfielder played in 20 international matches for the Swedish national team between 1923 and 1929 , scoring two goals.

Career

Helgesson started playing football at IK Virgo . He then moved to the Gothenburg club Örgryte IS , for which he was active in the 1920s and early 1930s. He developed into a national player and made his debut on October 28, 1923 on the occasion of a 1: 2 defeat against the Hungarian national team on the side of Gösta Wihlborg , Valdus Lund and Charles Brommesson in the Swedish national dress . Just three days later, the midfielder was successful as a goalscorer for his colors in the 2-2 draw against Poland alongside Harry Dahl .

After the founding of Allsvenskan for the 1924/25 season , Helgesson joined the club in the newly created league. At the side of players like Carl-Erik Holmberg , Douglas Krook , Sven Rydell and Robert Zander , he was a regular in the team that, along with local rivals GAIS and Helsingborgs IF, was one of the leading teams in the early years. In 1926 and 1928 he was first in the league with the team, but the Swedish championship title was not officially awarded at the time. In 1929 he played for the last time in the national jersey, the 10-0 victory over Latvia in his "farewell game" he crowned with his second international goal.
