John Douglas Krook ( July 1, 1897 - September 3, 1971 ) was a Swedish football player .

Career

Krook started his career at GAIS . In 1923 he left the club for Örgryte IS . First, he represented the club in the Svenska series , which he won with the team at the side of Robert Zander , Sven Rydell and Sven Friberg at the end of the 1923/24 season as West Champion after two 1-0 successes by the East Champion AIK . As a result, the selection committee considered him in the Swedish national team , for which he made his debut in June 1924 in the 3-2 away win against the Danish national team.

Under the nickname “Världens bästa back” (world's best defender), Krook qualified with the Gothenburg club in the summer of 1924 for the first season of the Allsvenskan . Despite only two defeats of the season, he only reached third place in the table behind local rivals GAIS and IFK Göteborg . In the 1925/26 season he led the club to top scorer Carl-Erik Holmberg and Knut Sandegren to first place in the first division, but the championship title was not officially awarded at the time. Two years later he repeated with Henning Helgesson , Ivar Klingström and Evert Lundquist due to the better goal quotient compared to the same point competitor Helsingborgs IF .

At the same time, Krook stayed in the selection team. Until 1929 he wore the blue and gold jersey of the national team, and he was denied participation in a major tournament. In his 21 international matches , the defender was without a goal.
