Henning Kristiansen

Henning Kristiansen (born July 2, 1927 in Copenhagen ; † November 2, 2006 ) was a Danish cameraman .

Life

Henning Kristiansen began his camera training in 1946 at the Palladium Film Studio in Copenhagen and made his debut as a camera assistant in 1947. After his military service, which he served until 1949, he continued to work for Palladium until 1951. In 1952 he moved to Nordisk Film , where he was chief cameraman for Nordisk Film Junior from 1953 to 1960 . He then went freelance.

In the course of his career, Kristiansen has been behind the camera for more than 100 feature and documentary films. He worked several times with the directors Henning Carlsen and Knud Leif Thomsen . In 1987 he directed the camera in Gabriel Axel's Babettes Fest , the first Danish feature film to be awarded an Oscar for best foreign language film . For his work on this film, Kristiansen was nominated for a BAFTA Award in the category Best Cinematography in 1989.

Kristiansen also worked as a film director. In 1978 he directed the film Mig og Charly together with Morten Arnfred , for which both were honored with the Bodil in the category Best Danish Film . In the following year he was the sole director of the sequel Charly og Steffen .

From 1987 to 1991 Kristiansen was a department head at the Danish Film School . From 1994 to 1997 he was chairman of the Danish Association of Film Cameramen ( Dansk Filmfotograf Forbund ), of which he was made an honorary member in 2002. In 2005 he published his autobiography Min egen filmhistorie .
