Henry Cantwell Wallace (born May 11, 1866 in Rock Island , Illinois , † October 25, 1924 in Washington, DC ) was an American university professor , publisher and Secretary of Agriculture of the United States .

biography

After graduating from school, he studied at the Iowa State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts from 1885 to 1887 , where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1892 . He later was a professor of dairy science himself at Iowa State College. He was also the editor and publisher of the agricultural magazine Wallaces' Farmer from 1916 to 1921 .

On March 5, 1921, Henry Cantwell Wallace was appointed US Secretary of Agriculture of the United States by US President Warren G. Harding in his cabinet . After the death of President Harding, he also held this office in the cabinet of his successor Calvin Coolidge until his own death on October 25, 1924.

His book Our Debt and Duty to the Farmers was published posthumously in 1925.

His son Henry Agard Wallace was not only Secretary of Agriculture, but also Vice President and then Secretary of Commerce of the United States .
