Frederick Sander

Henry Frederick Conrad Sander , mostly Frederick Sander , baptized as Heinrich Friedrich Conrad Sander (born March 4, 1847 in Bremen , † December 23, 1920 in Bruges , Belgium ) was a German-English gardener . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Sander ".

Life

Sander went to England in 1865 . He founded important nurseries in Bruges, Belgium and in St Albans (England). Sander worked as an orchid breeder; he introduced many new plant species that he received from his own plant collectors such as Wilhelm Micholitz . From 1888 to 1895 he was editor of the Reichenbachia magazine . Orchids illustrated and described . The plant genus × Sanderara was named after him.

Plant hunter

The Sander nursery had many plant hunters in its service, for example the Swiss Carl Roebelin (1855–1927).
