Henry Hall (born February 27, 1893 in Ishpeming , † April 17, 1986 in Loveland ) was an American ski jumper .

Career

Hall is considered to be one of the first American-born ski jumpers to be successful internationally. Before that, it was mostly Scandinavians who had emigrated and who achieved success for their new home in the USA. In 1916 Hall won the US championships. In 1917 he set a new ski flying world record with 61.9 meters on today's Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs , which he improved on the same hill to 62.2 meters only one year later. In 1921 Hall improved the record to 69.8 meters on Nels Nelson Hill in Revelstoke, Canada . This record lasted four years.

In 1967 Hall was inducted into the US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame . After retiring from playing, he lived in Farmington , Michigan . Hall continued to ski jumping up to the age of 79. In addition, he continued to practice cross-country skiing until his 91st birthday .
