Henry Harvey Williams

Henry Harvey Williams , OBE (born January 6, 1917 in Gomea Village, St. Vincent , St. Vincent and the Grenadines , † November 11, 2004 ) was Acting Governor General of St. Vincent and the Grenadines .

Life

Williams completed his education at the St. Vincent Boys' Grammar School and then worked as a teacher and later as an employee in the British colonial administration . In 1942 he married Eileen Dougan. After a stay in Curacao , he took up a position as a teacher at the St. Vincent Boys' Grammar School and then worked again in the colonial administration, where he was most recently Chief Secretary . In 1956 he was seconded to the head of the district administration on the island of Carriacou , which belongs to Grenada , before he subsequently acted as deputy head of the colonial administration of Grenada between 1958 and 1952. He also completed a law degree , which he completed with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). After working in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, he took up a position as a lawyer ( barrister ) and was also a temporary tutor at the University of the West Indies (UWI). In addition to his legal work, he has worked for various organizations such as The St. Vincent Music Association , The Lions' Club and the St. Vincent National Trust . For his services to the community on St. Vincent he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) on January 1, 1970 .

Williams, who was the chairman of the National Independence Committee (National Independence Committee) , was on February 29, 1988 as the successor to the resigned Joseph Lambert Eustace acting governor general of St. Vincent and the Grenadines . He held this post until September 20, 1989, when he was replaced by David Emmanuel Jack .
