Henry William George Paget, 3rd Marquess of Anglesey ( December 9, 1821 - January 30, 1880 in London ) was a British nobleman and politician of the Liberal Party . Until 1854 he held the courtesy title Lord Paget , from 1854 and 1869 the courtesy title Earl of Uxbridge ,

Life

Henry Paget was the only son of Henry Paget, 2nd Marquess of Anglesey (1797–1869) by marriage to Eleanora Campbell. His grandfather was the eminent Field Marshal Henry Paget (1768-1854), who had been raised to Marquess of Anglesey for his service at the Battle of Waterloo . Henry Paget had two half-brothers, Henry and Alexander, both of whom came from his father's second marriage.

Henry Paget married Sophia Eversfield (1819-1901), who came from Sussex , in 1845 . The marriage remained childless. From 1854 to 1857, Henry Paget represented the electoral district of South Staffordshire in the House of Commons of the British Parliament as one of two MPs . Henry Paget also served as an officer in the Grenadier Guards , a regiment in the Guards Division of the British Army .

When his father died in 1869, Henry Paget inherited the title of Marquess of Anglesey and entered the House of Lords . He died in the Albert Mansions on Victoria Street, Westminster , London in 1880 at the age of 58. He was followed by his half-brother Henry Paget, 4th Marquess of Anglesey . His wife Sophia moved to Fordingbridge , Hampshire , and later to Tunbridge Wells , Kent , where she died in 1901.
